There’s something about walking into the moors that makes the world feel a little quieter. Edale is the gateway to some of the Peak District’s best high-level walking, with open moorland, dramatic edges and huge views across the surrounding valleys. A good reminder that you don’t always need to travel far to feel somewhere completely different. 🌍
Pass it on
Worth knowing
Edale is the gateway to some of the Peak District’s best high-level walks. The higher you climb, the more exposed and rugged it becomes, so come prepared for changing weather and wet ground.
Don't miss
The views from the high moorland above Edale — especially when the cloud clears and you can see across the surrounding valleys.
Best time
A clear, dry day. The views are spectacular when visibility is good, but the weather on the moors can change quickly.
Watch out
The terrain can be rough, muddy and boggy in places. The higher sections are exposed, so waterproofs and proper footwear are worth having.
What surprised me
How quickly the landscape changes. You’re in a village surrounded by farmland, then suddenly you’re walking through huge, open moorland.
Would I go back?
Absolutely. It’s close enough for a day trip, but feels like you’ve properly escaped somewhere.
