I’d always associated Ibiza with clubs, late nights and packed beaches. But the first time I actually explored the island, that wasn’t what surprised me. Outside the famous party spots, Ibiza can feel incredibly peaceful. Whitewashed villages, little coves, pine-covered hills and winding roads where you can spend an afternoon with no real plan at all. We ended up driving around the island, stopping whenever somewhere looked interesting, and watching the landscape change from busy coastal spots to quiet little corners that felt a world away from the Ibiza I’d imagined. And then, of course, there’s the sunset. Sitting somewhere overlooking the Mediterranean as the sun disappeared into the water was probably the moment that changed my perception of the island most. Ibiza isn’t just somewhere you go to party. It’s somewhere you can slow down, explore and discover a completely different side of the island.

Worth knowing
There’s much more to Ibiza than the main resorts. Hiring a car or scooter gives you the freedom to explore the quieter side of the island.
Don't miss
Spend an afternoon exploring the smaller coves and villages rather than sticking to the busiest beaches.
Best time
May, June, September and October can be great for exploring, with warm weather and generally fewer crowds than the peak summer months.
Watch out
Peak summer can get extremely busy, particularly around the major nightlife areas.
What surprised me
How peaceful parts of the island can feel. It’s easy to forget you’re on the same island famous for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Would I go back?
Absolutely. Next time I’d spend even more time exploring the quieter side.
